Overview
EXAR developed a VR-integrated facility planning solution for Gültekin Makine, allowing them to create and visualize factory layouts in 3D instead of traditional AutoCAD drawings. This enabled them to quickly present floor plans to customers in an interactive way, making design reviews faster and more efficient.
The Challenge
Planning and communicating complex factory layouts using traditional 2D AutoCAD drawings presented several challenges for Gültekin Makine. It was difficult for both their internal team and their customers to accurately visualize spatial relationships, machine clearances, and potential workflow bottlenecks from static, top-down views. This often led to lengthy review cycles with multiple revisions based on static drawings, increasing the risk of misunderstandings about space utilization and potential clashes, which could result in costly changes discovered only during or after the physical setup.
The EXAR Solution
EXAR implemented a Virtual Reality solution leveraging the Direct2VR platform, seamlessly integrating with Gültekin Makine's existing design workflow. Existing 2D layout data and 3D machine models were imported and optimized for a high-fidelity, interactive VR environment. This allowed Gültekin's team and their clients to wear VR headsets and conduct immersive, 1:1 scale walkthroughs of the proposed factory layouts. Within this virtual space, users could intuitively grasp the layout, verify machine placements and operator access, check clearances dynamically, simulate basic workflows, and collaboratively discuss potential modifications in real-time, marking up areas of concern directly within the VR scene.
