Industry: Energy | Technology: Direct2VR, VR Simulation

Overview

EXAR implemented the Direct2VR solution for Tüpraş, Turkey's largest industrial enterprise and refiner. This enabled Tüpraş to integrate complex 3D models and data of their refinery facilities into an interactive Virtual Reality environment, allowing engineers and stakeholders to navigate, analyze, and understand operations in a completely virtual space.

The Challenge

Analyzing and understanding the intricate operations and spatial layouts of large-scale refinery facilities can be challenging using traditional 2D diagrams, P&IDs, or even standard 3D models on a screen. Tasks like planning maintenance access, reviewing safety procedures in context, training personnel on specific unit operations, or onboarding new engineers required a more intuitive and immersive visualization method.

The EXAR Solution

Utilizing the Direct2VR platform, EXAR processed Tüpraş's existing facility data (potentially including 3D models, point clouds, or process data) and created a detailed, navigable VR environment representing key areas of the refinery. Engineers and other personnel could use VR headsets to virtually 'walk' through the facility, inspect equipment from any angle, visualize process flows, and potentially access linked operational data within the immersive simulation. This provided a powerful tool for spatial understanding and operational analysis.

  • Integration of refinery facility data into the Direct2VR platform.
  • Creation of an interactive and navigable VR environment.
  • Optimization for performance with large-scale industrial models.
  • Enabled immersive exploration and analysis of refinery operations.

Results & Benefits

The Direct2VR solution provided Tüpraş engineers and stakeholders with an unprecedented tool for understanding their complex facilities. The ability to navigate the refinery virtually improved spatial awareness, facilitated better planning for maintenance and modifications, and offered a powerful platform for operational analysis and potentially training. It allowed for collaborative reviews and discussions within the virtual context of the refinery itself, enhancing communication and decision-making processes related to facility operations.

  • Enabled immersive navigation and analysis of complex refinery facilities.
  • Improved spatial understanding for engineers and stakeholders.
  • Provided a powerful platform for operational review and planning.
  • Facilitated enhanced communication and collaborative analysis.
