Industry: Food & Beverage | Technology: Direct2VR, VR Facility Planning

Overview

EXAR provided its Direct2VR solution to Ülker, a leading name in the food and beverage industry, to implement an advanced 3D layout planning system. This enabled Ülker to visualize and optimize their factory floor arrangements in an immersive virtual environment, leading to enhanced operational efficiency and better planning for production line configurations.

The Challenge

Optimizing production layouts in large food and beverage facilities is crucial for efficiency but complex to plan using traditional 2D methods. Ülker needed a better way to visualize equipment placement, simulate material flow, assess ergonomic factors, and plan for future modifications or new line installations within their existing facilities. Communicating these complex spatial plans effectively across different teams (engineering, operations, safety) was also a challenge.

The EXAR Solution

EXAR implemented the Direct2VR platform as a core component of Ülker's 3D layout planning system. Facility data, including building structures and 3D models of production equipment, were integrated into the Direct2VR environment. This allowed Ülker's planning and engineering teams to use VR headsets for immersive walkthroughs of virtual factory floors. They could accurately place and rearrange virtual machinery, test different layout configurations, visualize production flows, and identify potential bottlenecks or safety concerns in a realistic 1:1 scale simulation before any physical changes were made.

  • Integration of Ülker's facility and equipment data into Direct2VR.
  • Creation of an interactive 3D/VR layout planning system.
  • Tools for virtual placement, arrangement, and analysis of factory assets.
  • Immersive visualization to improve spatial understanding and operational planning.

Results & Benefits

The use of Direct2VR enabled Ülker to significantly enhance their factory layout planning process. The ability to visualize and interact with proposed layouts in an immersive 3D environment led to more optimized floor arrangements and improved operational efficiency projections. Potential issues related to space, workflow, or ergonomics could be identified and resolved much earlier in the planning stage, reducing the risk of costly modifications during implementation. The VR platform also served as an effective communication tool, allowing different teams to collaboratively review and approve layouts with greater clarity and confidence.

  • Enabled effective optimization of factory floor arrangements in 3D VR.
  • Improved visualization and understanding of spatial constraints and workflows.
  • Enhanced operational efficiency through better layout planning.
  • Facilitated clearer communication and collaboration during the planning process.
  • Reduced risks associated with implementing new layouts or production lines.
